Mage was closed because of DMCA

by BetaSteward:
"Well it's finally happened. We are now proud members of the DMCA takedown notice club. I guess it's a sign that we have become popular enough to draw the notice of the big boys.

There really isn't any infringing material in MAGE but that doesn't stop someone from saying that there is. That's the tragic flaw in the DMCA. Enforcement occurs before guilt is established. You're guilty until you prove your innocence. We could fight them in the official channels but that requires deeper pockets and more available time than I have.

So we are going to move our operation to a location that is not within the DMCA's jurisdiction. We are looking at options and will let you know when we have a new source repository and download site.

Stay tuned for more info."

Yep, that's true. Mage Google code page is not available anymore.
As for me this DMCA wasn't fair but we can't do anything against such big companies so probably searching for new home is the best solution for now.

Mage 0.7.1 has been released

Let me introcude new version of Mage application. It has lots of improvements and new features.

The most attractive is tournaments: drafts and sealed. Now you may play against computers and human players drafting card pool, building deck and then playing in tournaments.

Also what is very important, now we have AIvsAI test framework that allowed us to find lots of AI bugs and bottlenecks. We wrote special tests to reproduce the same game situations and to fix AI to make it right choices. So now AI much more stronger, I play rather good beating AI in almost all games previously, but now I lost some because of correct AI playing.

There is also one important fix that made Mage using much less memory while running.

And for sure we have new cards in the release.

More details on release can be found here:

As usual, have fun! ;)

Mage 0.6 released

Finally we released version 0.6. Though we had to postpone some features till 0.7, there is still a lot of stuff done in version 0.6:
- New game UI: it has more place for cards, updated player's pane, layout fixed and seems has better looking.
- Collection Viewer: allows to view though the all implemented cards using "book" style. For latest sets (at the moment only SOM, as M11 has all card implemented) it shows not implemented cards as well.
- New tooltips: with text highlighting, mana and set symbols, transparency, delayed appearing, etc.
- New implemented keywords: Proliferate, Infect.
- New cards: SOM is 163/249 (65%) done. New cards from ROE, WWK, ZEN.
- Some bug fixes.

Mage Rate Cards

Hi,

Today I created small application that will help our team to rate cards in Mage.
And you may really help rating cards with us: just download the executable jar with images (49Mb) and start it.
Here is the screenshot:

All you need is to choose between two cards what you like best and click it. Rate results are stored in /results folder, you may pack and send these files to us. When we combined all the results, the program will calculate cards' ratings and Mage will use it in various places.

Link to download: Get it!

Thank you in advance.

Mage - in progress

Hi,
It was so sad to loose the article previously, but anyway I promised...
So I decided tease you a little :)

Actually there is good news today: I've finished with plugins I planned to have for the realese. Probably there are still some minor things to be fixed, but it will be revealed during beta testing. Btw, let me know if you would like to join us while testing beta version of next coming release, I can send you zip file and basic instruction how to start server and client.

So, a little about plugins in Mage, there are three of them:
  • Mage Theme: it adds background, changes component layout, make them transparent. In future we are planning to make it configurable so you will be able to change background image to any picture you like
  • Mage Counter: the simpliest one. It is intended to count how many games you played and display the number on startup page.
  • Mage Card: the biggest one. By lines of code and time spent for implementation. Totally replaces the graphical representation of the card in Mage. Adds card sorting layout we had in Magic Wars (grouping basic lands to stacks, moving permanents to various areas depending on card type, etc.). And gives an option to download images to be drawn upon java components.
Not to waste your time, here is the screenshot I took while testing. Enjoy! ;)
